I have been a creative person all my life, though not realizing at the time that what I considered work and an every day necessity were all part of the creative process. Knitting, sewing and other handcrafts, along with the pleasure of creating interesting birthday cakes for my children and my love of cooking and entertaining, all gave me different ways of expressing my individuality. In later years I finally realized a long held passion for painting, firstly in private classes and later by completing an Auckland University Bachelor of Visual Arts. It was during this time that I was exposed to other media, such as sculpture and drawing, which have become part of my practice and an ongoing discovery.
In 2009 I took part in a group exhibition at The Depot Artspace in Devonport, Auckland and in 2010 had two solo exhibitions, at The Depot and in Turangi which I consider my second home. Although I have lived in West Auckland all my life and raised a family there my love affair with the landscape of the central plateau also inspires my work.
Although painting and landscape is a large part of my practice I have found drawing the ideal medium to explore my interest in science and quantum physics where I use penciled circles on paper, pins, embossed circles, punched holes and dots to express my ideas on the nature of reality, time and space. During May 2011 I again exhibited at The Depot where this interest was investigated.
I am currently working part-time in an accounts role to keep the bank balance healthy and look forward to the day when I can devote myself fully to my artwork.
